Dubai is the largest city in United Arab Emirates in terms of population, and the second largest in land area. Dubai is located on the Persian Gulf coast of UAE, almost at sea level and shares borders with Abu Dhabi in the south and Sharjah in the northeast. Dubai city center is 150 km away from the capital city Abu Dhabi, and is just an hour and a half’s drive away. The city’s climate is a hot desert one; ideal for the lovers of sun, blue skies, and a light breeze every now and then. Dubai is nowadays often misperceived as a country or a city-state on its own and, in some cases, the UAE itself has been mentioned as ‘Dubai’. Dubai has established itself as a cosmopolitan metropolis that has grown progressively to turn into a global city and a business and cultural hub of Middle East as well as entire Persian Gulf region.

Dubai is the hub for Emirates Airlines, one of the national airlines established in 1985. Dubai International Airport consists of three terminals with one of them dedicated to Emirates Airlines flights (arrivals and departures). GCC citizens don’t require a visa to enter the country, however, all other nationalities require a visit, a transit, residency or a tourism visa that can be obtained or directed through embassies, Emirates Airlines, tourism agencies, or hotel bookings.

The education field in Dubai is greatly valued and offers plentiful options. The sector is divided into public education and private education. The Ministry of Education is responsible for the public sector, whilethe Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is responsible for the growth, direction and quality of private education and learning in Dubai. KHDA has divided the private sector into 4 divisions: early childhood, schools, higher education, and continuing education. A wide range of curriculums are available in Dubai including American, British, Australian, Canadian, Indian, and Iranian. Education institutions in Dubaihave a unique combination of nationalities and an immense mixture of cultures that creates incredible diversity within teachers and students.

WORKING IN DUBAI

Living and getting around the city of Dubai is enjoyable and trouble-free. Taxis are plentiful and are reasonably priced, and can be flagged down at roadsides or booked by phone. Most of the international car rental companies have an office in Dubai and offer a wide variety of vehicles. Public transportation includesmodern and air-conditioned buses, taxis, and water taxis in the creek area. The city also has an operational metro rail with two lines that connect all the major financial and residential areas. All visitors and citizens of the country are required by law to have a medical insurance cover. In 2012, Dubai was ranked as the 22nd most expensive city in the world, and the most expensive city in the Middle East.

Dubai maybe a city of diligent and intelligent minds, but it’s also home to fun, leisure, and entertainment. From the beautiful beaches to desert nights, the city enjoys a huge collection of amusement activities including horse riding, sky diving, skiing, water skiing and surfing, and desert camping. There are also man-made islands like the The Palms, historical monuments, sky scrapers including BurjKhalifa,the tallest residential building in the world, shopping malls, hotels like Burj Al Arab – world’s first 7-star hotel worldwide, authentic restaurants across global cuisines, and tranquil relaxation spots. In 2010, Dubai was the 7th most visited city in the world with 7.6 million visitors a year. Dubai has been called the “shopping capital of the Middle East” and hosts more than 70 shopping malls, including the world’s largest shopping mall, The Dubai Mall. Dubai is also known as “the City of Gold”; the Gold Souk in Deira houses nearly 250 gold retail shops.
