Ferris State University, now in its 125th year of existence, is a leader in career-oriented education in the United States.   • Engineering Technology
    Besides being one of the largest and most successful colleges of engineering technology in the US, Ferris’s College of Engineering Technology offers a wide array of programs, such as computers, manufacturing, design engineering, construction, architecture and more, plus the unique Rubber Engineering Technology. Our plastics program is also the largest in the US, training students for trades such as processing, product design, tool design, materials science, and program management, and job placements for Ferris’ plastics program graduates is currently at 100%.
  • Healthcare and Related Fields
    We have one of sixteen colleges of Optometry in the country. Ferris’s College of Pharmacy is considered one of the best, and programs like Nursing, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Health Information systems meet the academic demands of the growing health market.
  • Business and Management
    Our unique programs in Golf, Music and Tennis management programs were the first of their kinds in the US, and they continue to be the premier programs in their respective fields. They reflect our commitment to identifying and developing programs that respond to marketplace needs. Our most recent evidence of this is our MBA that focuses on performance-metric concepts of management combined with unique opportunities for specialization.
  • Kendall College of Art and Design
    The Digital Media Program is designed to develop innovative artists who are well-prepared to pursue careers in existing and emerging digital media technologies. Students will focus on one of several exciting specializations- Digital Illustration, Interactive Design, Motion Graphics, 2D Animation, or 3D Animation. Students may choose Digital Media as a major or as a minor.
  • Main Campus
    Ferris State University’s main campus in Big Rapids is ideally located in a college-town setting. Our location is in the heart of the West Michigan vacationland. Big Rapids boasts a vibrant downtown area with businesses that welcome college students.

The university is in close proximity to larger metropolitan areas of the Midwest. Our main campus is located within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids and is three hours from Detroit and four hours from Chicago.

  • Housing
    Ferris State University is considered a residential campus. Approximately 4,000 students live in our facilities, which contain residential halls, apartment complexes, and town-houses for students and families. Cafeterias, coffee places, and a convenience market are available to students on campus. Recreation facilities, as well as sports fields and arenas can be found on campus and used by all students and the community.
  • Lifestyle
    Big Rapids boasts a vibrant, historic, downtown district with many unique shops and businesses within walking distance of the University. Stroll down on your lunch hour and listen to live music every Friday in Pocket Park during the summer and buy the best Michigan-grown produce and flowers at the Farmer’s Market that begins in May of each summer. Major supermarket and restaurant chains are also located near campus for 24-hour availability and convenience.
  • Surrounding Community
    The county has award-winning schools and an award-winning hospital, local law enforcement that are well trained and dedicated to making sure our homes and businesses are safe. Arts are alive and well in our downtown, with our own Artworks art gallery that offers classes and sells art by local artists, and hosts, along with Ferris State University, the Festival of the Arts, a month long celebration of the arts each February.
