The University of Winchester was established in 1840 and it combines this heritage with innovative learning and teaching. The roots of the University began when the Winchester Diocesan Training School was founded as a Church of England foundation.It was designed to provide for the training of elementary schoolmasters. The School was initially quite small and housed in St Swithun’s Street, Winchester.

The University of Winchester is organised into four faculties:

  • Faculty of Business, Law and Sport
  • Faculty of Health, Education and Social Care
  • Faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences

Undergraduate Study offered at the university are flexible with modular degree options that allow a great deal of choice to both Joint and Single Honours students.

Academic fields of study include subjects within the arts, humanities, education, business, law, social sciences and health and social care.

Single Honours degree programmes focus on one subject. They generally focus around a ‘core’ of compulsory modules which are added to by a range of optional modules which enable you to tailor your degree towards your own interests.

Combined Honours programmes enable you to study two subjects, jointly (50% / 50%) and it is possible to transfer to a Single Honours programme at the end of Year 1.

Winchester offers a range of postgraduate study options at various levels of award that can result in different qualifications.
