The University of Exeter is a public university in South West England. Most of its work is conducted in the city of Exeter, Devon, where it is the principal higher education institution. The University of Exeter is a member of the 1994 Group of universities. The Group, so called because it was founded in 1994, consists of nineteen internationally renowned research-intensive universities in Britain, who share common aims, standards and values. The University traces its origins to schools and colleges established in the middle of the nineteenth century as a result of the energies and visions of individual educational reformers and philanthropists throughout Devon and Cornwall; it is one of the UK’s most popular and successful universities with campuses in Exeter, Devon, and near Falmouth in Cornwall. The University also has a permanent office in Dubai.

Exeter like other UK universities became much more of a national institution, with students coming from all over the southern United Kingdom; as a research-intensive institution, it now attracts significant numbers of students from overseas.

Students and staff enjoy some of the finest campus environments in the UK. The South West counties of Devon and Cornwall boast an unrivalled mix of city life, countryside and coastline. In 1995 Her Majesty the Queen, with His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh returned to the University for its 40th Anniversary celebrations. This aspiration was much in evidence in 1996 and 1998 when the University received Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for research into, respectively diabetes and children’s health and exercise. Exeter has been shortlisted for the Sunday Times University of the Year Award more times than any other university.

The University has over 17,000 students and scores highly for degree completion rates, and for students achieving good honors degrees (Firsts or 2:1s). Also have large number of well-known alumni. Both Princess Anne’s children Peter Phillips and Zara Phillips attended the University in the late 1990s. J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter in the mid 80′s. Robert Bolt, playwright and two-time Oscar and BAFTA winning screenwriter also attended Exeter.
